We went to the Museum of Tomorrow which is focused on cosmology, genetic diversity and climate change.

We went on a Behind the Scenes of Carnival tour. They showed us how the floats are made, explained the history and let us try on some outfits!

We went to a cultural show which had gorgeous outfits!

We went to the Royal Portuguese Reading room. It was breathtaking! It is rated in the top 4 most beautiful libraries in the world!

When the Portuguese came over they brought an entire boat full of books!

We saw the coolest art exhibit in Rio! Artist is Flavio Cerqueira

Art exhibit at the Correios Cultural center

This artist painted butterflies which were just gorgeous. The large paintings are collages with fabrics as details.

We went to the zoo yesterday. They mostly had Brazilian animals which was great as we haven’t seen much wildlife on this trip. Plus the zoo was free!

My favorite part of the zoo was watching the hippos! 🦛
I think he was using the waterspout to clean his teeth?

Streets of Salvador

There are drumming groups performing in the streets raising money for their group.

Reminds me of the drums in Basel! 🤣

We went to the Casa do Carnival museum in Salvador. It was interesting to compare the traditions between Rio and Salvador!

This exhibit was called Ancestors and paid homage to the African roots of the population of Salvador. Salvador was the largest slave trading port in S. America. Most slaves then headed to Charleston SC

Country #50 – Brazil! 🇧🇷

I arrived back home in Switzerland this morning from my 25 day trip in Brazil. Still have lots of photos to share!

It was great seeing old friends and exploring a country I’ve been planning to visit for decades!

It was a great final trip for 2025!
